Zilien

Zilien is a contemporary Mauritian artist born on July 14, 1995, residing in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. He studied fine arts at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius, where he earned his degree. In 2023, he graduated and continued his higher education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, where he obtained his diploma. Zilien considers himself a multidisciplinary contemporary artist who practices installation, sculpture, photography, but more particularly painting. The writings of great psychoanalysts and music deeply influence Zilien’s practice. His work often explores dreamlike landscapes, referred to as “liminal space,” fragmented realities where his own reality oscillates between the world of dreams. He taps into his subconscious through techniques such as automatism, which involves spontaneous and unconscious expression. This approach allows him to draw connections between events from his experiences and his often surreal imagination. Painting allows him to create imaginary spaces to practice the art of installation. Zilien continues his research on subjective perception, using automatism and symbolism to dive into the mysteries of the mind, offering a window into the subconscious…
VLFineart’s vision
Zilien, a promising young artist, positions himself both as an actor and a spectator of his work. Between melancholy and reverie, he explores his art with introspective depth, as if it were an analysis or personal therapy.
